Sun Valley is not the easiest place to get to, mostly due to limited flights and weather. But, there are several options to choose from when planning your trip.

By Air:

Sun Valley is easily accessible by air from the gateway cities of Seattle, WA, Los Angeles, CA, Oakland, CA and Salt Lake City, UT. Horizon Air and Skywest offer daily direct, nonstop flights to Sun Valley’s Friedman Memorial Airport. There is also a private terminal at Friedman Airport, run by Sun Valley Aviation. Make sure to call ahead to book space.

Do not be surprised, however, if you have land in Twin Falls due to the weather and get bussed to Sun Valley, or vice versa. If the weather looks sketchy in the slightest bit, make sure you stay near your phone. The airline will usually call you ahead of time to let you know that you will be bussed out of Sun Valley, but make sure to check; you don’t want to get stranded. If you can’t fly to Sun Valley directly, you can always fly into Boise, which is served by several major airlines, and either rent a car or take a shuttle with Sun Valley Stages.

By Car:

The drive from Boise is approximately 2 ½ hours and 150 miles, depending on weather and road conditions. Take Interstate 84 to Highway 20 to Highway 75, which turns into Main Street, Ketchum. If the weather is bad, take Interstate 84 to Highway 26 to Highway 75.

Cars can be rented from Avis, Budget, Enterprise and Hertz at the baggage claim area at Friedman Airport but make sure to reserve a car, they go fast. If you don’t have a rental car and are staying in Ketchum or Sun Valley, much of the area is accessible by foot.

Buses and Taxis:

If you are going back and forth between Ketchum and Sun Valley, the Ketchum Area Rapid Transit or KART bus is a free bus that serves both areas and if staying at the resort, there is a shuttle service. To get to and from the ski mountain, the KART bus will take you or the resort has a school bus that runs people back and forth. The bus only runs until midnight, so if you are out late, be aware that taxis are not easy to find, but available cabs usually wait on Main Street in Ketchum.
